How long does the typical design process take ?

The optical design process varies depending on the requirement and the level of design work required by the customer. A simple design can be done in a single day, whereas a more complex design which requires tolerancing, athermalisation and the like, can take much longer. We strive to complete all design work in the quickest timescale possible, and to this end we can offer fixed price rates for certain jobs which gives the customer the option to budget fully for the work beforehand.

In what format will I recieve the optical design files ?

All optical designs can be supplied in a number of formats - at OptoVise we use Zemax Opticstudio for the bulk of the design work, so at the customers request, we can supply the native Zemax design files. We can also supply the designs in 3D CAD format such as STEP and IGES, along with 2D drawings if required. We will also provide for each design, lens drawings to ISO10110 standard which can be used for sourcing and prototyping/manufacturing of individual lens elements.

What is the cost of an optical design to meet my specification ?

As with the design process, the cost of the design work varies depending on the complexity of the design. At OptoVise we work hard to ensure we offer the most competitive rates, and we can also offer fixed rates for certain designs to ensure that the customer knows exactly how much the design will cost with no hidden or extra charges. A quotation for the design cost will be provided before any design work is undertaken and we do offer flexible payment terms for all work undertaken.

Can you provide help/support with sourcing parts and prototyping and manufacture ?

We can provide a full service from design through to prototyping with the help of our manufacturing partners worldwide. For standard parts to enable quick prototyping we would recommend our sister site  - www.adept-optical.com - and for custom parts we can help source and supply the required parts at a small cost to the customer.

Who owns the intellectual property on the designs when complete ?

All intellectual property resides wholly with the customer for all design work. We treat all our customers information and designs in the strictest confidence and will not divulge any information to a third party without prior consent of the customer.
